Rave highlights need for party permit
The Space Jam rave, a huge party for young adults that took place at the Space Center, has highlighted a weak spot in the town of Hooksett’s rules. There is nothing in place to allow large gatherings of people anywhere in town. A good 500 people showed up at the Space Center for that overnight party, shocking police and neighbors. It’s clear that the Space Center did not follow the rules set down by the Planning Board when they were given approval. Since the owner said many overnight private parties have taken place there, he either didn’t care that he was violating that rule or figured no one would notice. Well, now we’ve all noticed. Still, it seems reasonable to allow young people to gather in a controlled setting like that, along with police presence and approval. Setting up a process for people to get permission for such gatherings would be a good idea and keep control of big groups in town. - Editorials published by Neighborhood News Inc. are written by an editorial board.
